- May was recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month in Montana through a statewide proclamation issued by Governor Gianforte, following a request submitted by BHAM. The proclamation helps affirm the importance of mental health and behavioral health services across the state.
- Our Legislative Session Summary Report is on the BHAM website. A few recent updates:
Vetoed Bills:
• SB244 – Revise laws related to health insurance coverage of behavioral health screening
• HB610 – Revise preauthorization laws relating to healthcare
Still Pending: HB2 (State Budget):
We are still waiting on the final version and signature. This will determine the official status of provider rate increases and several BH priorities. More to come once confirmed.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed throughout the session—whether through in-person or virtual testimony, attending meetings, submitting comments, or supporting BHAM’s advocacy efforts. Your engagement made a meaningful difference.
We’re continuing to track key developments on major initiatives, including the BHSFG and CCBHCs, and the status of the interim legislative committees. We’ll keep you informed and share opportunities for engagement as they arise.
- At the federal level, we’re also closely monitoring policy shifts that affect behavioral health, nonprofit operations, and the people we serve. There is significant uncertainty and rapid change occurring nationally. We are especially concerned about the future of Medicaid in America and the potentially devastating impacts any cuts or restructuring could have on Montanans and across the country. We will be sharing news as it comes out, but as a good reminder, National Council for Mental Wellbeing has a collection of ways you can advocate and make your voice heard.
Please reach out to me if there is anything you need. When we work together, we can solve all the problems out there!
Stay safe. Stay healthy.
